It Was Sixty Years Ago Today!

On Sunday, the 14th of June 1964, The Beatles’ plane touched down at Essendon Airport, and our city was changed forever.

As part of their ten-day Australian tour, John, Paul, George, and Ringo performed six shows over three nights at Melbourne’s Festival Hall, captivating a total audience of 45,000 people.

Their arrival sparked unprecedented excitement, with over a quarter of a million fans lining the streets from the airport to the CBD, hoping to catch a glimpse of these four young men with the mop-top haircuts. Their visit left an indelible mark on the city of Melbourne and its people.

More than fifty years after their breakup, audiences all over the world continue to discover and rediscover their music.

Bacchus Marsh Grammar commemorates the 60th anniversary of The Beatles’ visit to Melbourne, honouring their profound cultural impact and enduring musical legacy.
