By Mr Luke Symes – Co-Head of Woodlea Campus
Students from the Woodlea Campus, in collaboration with the Michael Long Foundation, the Essendon Football Club, MIRVAC and Woodlea Developments; had the honour of being invited to participate in the ‘Little Long Walk’.
‘The Long Walk’ is a charity inspired by Michael Long’s walk to Canberra to highlight the lives and struggles of Indigenous Australians, and reinstate the Indigenous people’s plight back on the National Agenda.
The event was held in two parts; it began with an assembly which encompassed a speech from Indigenous Ambassadorial Speaker Courtney Dempsey, and an Indigenous performance and traditional story and dance performed by Indigenous Performer, Natasha Bamblett. The assembly was followed by the ‘Little Long Walk’, which was held on the walking track around the Woodlea Recreation Reserve. The event was highly successful in identifying and raising awareness for Indigenous Australians and Michael Long’s journey.
We thank parents, guardians and family members who were in attendance for their support.
