On 6 November, Woodlea student leaders and staff attended the Remembrance Sunday Service organised by the Community Development Manager for the Woodlea Estate, Ms Claire Mouser. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to honour the fallen and support veterans and their families. Garvit Sharma of Year 8 delivered a prayer of thanks and remembrance on this occasion and Maddie De Vera and Aarya Avinash of Year 6 laid a wreath on behalf of the staff and students of Bacchus Marsh Grammar. Students were privileged to meet Mr Allan Godrey, a 99-year-old WWII Veteran who attended the service and spoke with students about his time serving in the Pacific during WWII.
Students and staff also commemorated Remembrance Day with a whole campus service at which all students from ELC to Year 8 attended. Year 4 leaders Zara Ristoski and Shashank Bijinipally shared a prayer which used the symbol of the poppy to highlight beauty, sacrifice and service. Our Remembrance Day commemorations concluded with a minute’s silence at 11am which marked the moment when, at 11am on 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. It was a solemn moment in which all students showed the school values of Respect and Discipline as they reflected on the courage of past and current service men and women and remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
