- Page 17 - CONTENTS - HANDWRITING AND FINE MOTOR SKILLS - YEAR 3 AND 4 Teacher: Simone Kyle Time: Monday Lunchtime Location: Room 116 TEACHER SELECTED PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Handwriting and Fine Motor Skills co-curricular activity aims to improve the students ’ fine motor skills and letter formation. Fine motor skills are essential for students to achieve success with writing. During both terms the lessons will have a combined focus. The first part of the lesson will build the students ’ hand-eye coordination, finger grip and hand strength through a range of hands-on activities. The second part will transfer these skills into letter formation, sizing and correctly using dotted third paper. LESSON COMPONENTS Introduction: Hands on activities that build finger grip and hand strength, for example, Lego, fine motor games etc. Lesson: Modelled Handwriting Letter formation Use of dotted third paper Continuation of hands-on activities that build fine motor skills SKILL DEVELOPMENT Hand Strength Finger Grip Letter formation and sizing Use of dotted third paper SELECTION CRITERIA Teachers will nominate students to participate in this program. Teachers will use classroom observations and a variety of diagnostic tests to select students.
