10 TEACHER PERSPECTIVE I have been amazed at how readily our students have adapted to remote learning. They took it in their stride and have been incredible. They have really risen to the challenge. They have a clear understanding of what is required of them and have, possibly more so now than ever, an understanding of what it means to be a great student and peer. The partnerships we have with parents are now stronger than ever as the lines of communication must be open and transparent. There are so many positives to come out of this. It has allowed teachers to reflect on their practice. I know I have learnt so much about myself through this experience, and hope to transfer these strategies back in my classroom. I could not be prouder of my students at this time. Ms Lisa Stephens Year 3 Coordinator, Maddingley Online learning has been a journey of discovery for both teachers and students alike; learning new platforms and conversing in ways that are foreign to early years teaching. However, the students have been so resilient and adaptable and have thrived as part of this online learning community. The teaching model of “ I DO, WE DO, YOU DO” has supported us to structure our lessons in a way that is predictable and supportive of all our students. The students are scaffolded in their learning and then gradually released to be independent and motivated learners. Don’t get me wrong, there have been hurdles, but these are much like the ones we face daily in this profession. We are all in this together and working alongside an incredible and collaborative team has ensured we can continue to provide a quality education for the Year Twos at Woodlea. Ms Courtney Williams Year 2 Coordinator, Woodlea Remote learning has been an overall positive experience. It has provided an opportunity for me to significantly improve my ICT skills in a highly supportive environment and reminded me that it is important to challenge myself professionally. I have been able to reflect on my teaching style and learnt to adapt to the new environment. Throughout the process, I have always felt that the students and I have continued to connect and build on the rapport we have always enjoyed. Despite some challenges and, at times, frustrations, I am confident that the students have accessed the curriculum and regularly demonstrated their learning. I look forward to teaching my students face to face as nothing can ever replace that, however, I believe that, when they return, the transition will be a smooth one because school has continued for us all.
