BMG 2020 Grammarian Issue 2

13 EARLY LEARNING CENTRE At the Early Learning Centre, we run an integrated seven and half hour kindergarten program for 60 children in our two 4-5 year old rooms. During the COVID-19 at the beginning of Term 2, we offered a remote learning package using Seesaw. This allowed families who wished to remain at home, access to a learning curriculum aligned to our current room curriculum. Families could send in videos and scan in drawings and work. Books, Sound of the Week, scavenger hunts, Welcome to Country, Mother’s Day drawings (to be displayed in the Centre’s foyer gallery) were incorporated in the Literacy, Numeracy and STEAM components of our remote learning program. As Early Learning Centres were to remain open, we offered remote learning to all families so they had a choice. After the school holidays, gradually more families attended the Centre and our remote learning dropped off. Currently, we have approximately 14 families accessing remote learning (this is decreasing) and 40 families (this is increasing) attending the Centre. Overall we have 77 families enrolled. Many families felt confident to leave their children with us during this period, while those who accessed the remote learning, appreciated the use of the program at home.
