- Page 17 - CONTENTS - TALK THE TALK - PREP TO YEAR 2 Teacher: Helen Saunders Support Staff: Lauren Majewski Time: Thursday Lunchtime Location: Room E8 TEACHER SELECTED PROGRAM OVERVIEW Encouraging young readers and emerging readers to discover great books, share new stories, explore important topics, and have some bookish fun! LESSON COMPONENTS Familiarisation with the narrative story grammar elements including;  characters  setting  problem  solution  ending By the end of the program, students will collaborate in groups to make and create their own story with their peers to act out in front of group. SKILL DEVELOPMENT This co-curricular activity will target oral and written language skills in the following areas:  Understanding and use of narrative structures as a way to communicate a story (fact or fictional)  Identifying and increasing descriptive language usage  Listening comprehension  Vocabulary development There will also be opportunities to practise speaking in front of a group SELECTION CRITERIA Selection of students to participate in this program is based on the observations and recommendations of class and subject teachers. The sessions are restricted to a maximum number of students at any one time in order to facilitate oral language development.
