- Page 19 - CONTENTS - WRITING WORKSHOP - YEAR 3 Teacher: Kim Blundell Time: Tuesday Lunchtime Location: Room S3 TEACHER SELECTED PROGRAM OVERVIEW This writing co-curricular activity aims to provide students with the skills and strategies needed to become creative and engaging writers. There will be a focus on developing the students ’ knowledge and understanding of a range of text types and how they are structured by exploring Narrative, Poetry and Persuasive text. This knowledge will help students to create a range of written texts, as well as interpret and respond more effectively to varied texts they will encounter throughout their lives. LESSON COMPONENTS The students will be expected to be able to build on their already well-developed writing skills such as:  Spelling, grammar and vocabulary extension  Analysis of plot, character motives and themes in their written texts.  Formal text writing  Editing and publishing  Poetry reading and writing SELECTION CRITERIA The students selected for the Writing Workshop Program will be chosen on the following criteria by their class teacher:  High academic achievement in classwork  Positive teacher observations  Enthusiasm towards writing  Creativity and high-order thinking The students who are selected for this program must have a strong and consistent approach and diligently apply themselves to completing tasks. As only a small number of students will be selected for this class, a high level of enthusiasm and ongoing commitment will be expected.
