- Page 9 - CONTENTS - WORD WIZARDS - YEAR 1 Teacher: Cheryl Clinton Time: Friday Lunchtime Location: Room E7 TEACHER SELECTED PROGRAM OVERVIEW Word Wizards Literacy classes are designed to stimulate and extend students who are enthusiastic about reading and enjoy a new challenge. Students will participate in reading stories and short novels, developing higher order thinking and comprehension skills, as well as building new vocabulary. The Word Wizards co- curricular activity aims to provide students with opportunities to develop and improve their reading and comprehension skills. SKILL DEVELOPMENT  Vocabulary extension  Fluency, phrasing and expression  Comprehension skills  Use of dictionaries SELECTION CRITERIA Teachers will nominate suitable students to participate in the Word Wizards program based on comprehension skills and teacher observations.
