- Page 21 - CONTENTS - FILM STUDY - VISUAL LITERACY - YEAR 4 Teacher: Alison Cummins Time: Monday Lunchtime Location: Room X5 TEACHER SELECTION PROGRAM OVERVIEW Visual Literacy provides an opportunity for students to view and interpret images. They will be able to explore how ideas and emotions are expressed in visual forms and provokes critical analysis of characters, themes and purpose. Students will also be able to connect the impact of visual literacy with written texts to compare and contrast the two forms of literacy. SKILL DEVELOPMENT  Literal, Inferential and Critical Evaluative understanding  Vocabulary development  Stimulation of creativity to enhance writing  Development of a rich connection with written literature through visual literacy  Ability to articulate opinions and ideas succinctly SELECTION CRITERIA: Students in Year 4 will be nominated by classroom teachers to participate in the Film Study co-curricular activity using the following set of criteria:  Enthusiasm towards Visual Literacy during Information Literacy lessons  Ability to critically analyse characters, themes and settings  Collaboration with peers  Being a responsible and sensible learner "If one wants to reach younger people at an earlier age to shape their minds in a critical way, you really need to know how ideas and emotions are expressed visually" ~ Martin Scorsese, director and filmmaker
